EXPANSION JOINTS AND SCREED ACCESSORIES

Floors and coverings transmit movements, causing the floor coverings to expand. This results in tension and a high risk of damage to the floor construction and floor coverings. Expansion joint profiles and screed profiles from Blanke are fitted with adaptable insert strips for counteracting tension in the floor. Expansion joints protect coverings such as tiles, bricks and natural stone slabs against cracking, and prevent footfall sound transmission in screed.

You would like to know more about screed accessories?

Screed is an important element in the construction of a floor. To ensure that the screed is installed properly and lasts for a long time without cracking, you need quality screed accessories. Here you can find out more about screed accessory products such as heavy-duty expansion profiles, screed movement joint profiles, screed expansion profiles and Blanke Floorex. These products can help you create a durable, safe and robust floor construction.

Screed profiles and their properties

Heavy duty expansion joint profile

The heavy-duty expansion joint profile is a screed accessory product that has been specially developed for use in heavily used areas. It helps to absorb tensions and loads and thus prevents cracks in the screed. This product is ideal for use in industrial buildings, parking garages, shopping centers and other high traffic areas.

Screed movement joint profiles

Screed movement joint profiles are specifically designed for use on screed movement joints. These products help protect the screed from cracks and breaks by absorbing tension and movement. Screed movement joint profiles are ideal for use indoors, such as in offices, apartments and shopping centers.

Screed expansion profiles

Screed expansion profiles are another important type of screed accessory products. They are used to absorb stress in the screed and protect the flooring from cracks and breaks. Screed expansion profiles are ideal for use in high humidity areas such as swimming pools, gyms and changing rooms.

Blanke Floorex

Blanke Floorex is a high-quality screed accessory product specifically designed for use under tiles and other floor coverings. This product helps protect the flooring from moisture and other damage, ensuring a long service life. Blanke Floorex is ideal for use in homes, offices and other interior spaces.

Differences between screed profiles

Although screed expansion profiles and screed movement profiles both serve to protect the screed surface, there is a fundamental difference between the two products. A screed expansion profile is used to absorb stresses in the screed and protect the flooring from cracks and breaks. It is usually used in places where there is a screed joint or an expansion joint, e.g. when connecting screed panels or at transitions between different floor coverings.

The screed expansion profile is drawn along the joint or joint in the screed and prevents cracks or breaks from forming when the screed expands or contracts due to fluctuations in temperature or humidity.

A screed movement profile, on the other hand, is specifically for this designed to accommodate the movement of the screed in its entirety. It is used to protect the screed from cracks and breaks that can occur due to the natural movement of the screed, e.g. due to building movements or uneven floors.

The screed movement profile is laid along the edge of the screed and allows the screed to move without damaging the flooring or the building.

Installation of screed profiles

The installation of screed profiles such as screed expansion joint profiles usually takes place in several steps:

  1. Preparation of the surface: Clean the surface thoroughly and ensure that it is free of dust, dirt and loose materials is. If necessary, you can treat the surface with a primer to improve adhesion.
  2. Choosing the right profile: Choose Select the appropriate screed expansion joint profile according to the width and depth of the joint. Make sure that the profile also meets the requirements for load capacity and resistance to chemicals and moisture.
  3. Preparation of the Profile: Cut the screed expansion joint profile to the required length and ensure that it fits well into the joint. Depending on the profile, it may also be necessary to cut the ends at an angle to achieve an optimal fit.
  4. Installation of the Profile: Apply a suitable adhesive or sealant to the substrate and the edges of the joint. Insert the screed expansion joint profile into the joint and press it firmly. Make sure that the profile is horizontal and flush with the floor. Then insert the profile into the joint and press firmly to ensure it sticks well. When doing this, avoid stretching or squeezing the profile too much, as this can impair its functionality.
Make sure that the screed expansion joint profile is horizontal and flush with the floor. Check the alignment with a spirit level to ensure the profile is straight. If necessary, you can lift and adjust the profile again before the adhesive or sealant completely hardens. It is important to allow the adhesive or sealant to dry completely before pouring or laying the screed over it. The exact drying time depends on the type of adhesive or sealant and should be specified by the manufacturer. After the glue or sealant has completely dried, you can pour or lay the screed over it. The screed expansion joint profile should be covered by a protective film to prevent screed from penetrating the profile. As soon as the screed has hardened, you can remove the protective film and the screed expansion joint profile is ready for use.

  5. Cleaning and finishing: Remove excess glue or sealant and clean the profile thoroughly. Allow the adhesive or sealant to dry completely before pouring or laying the screed over it.

It is important to follow the specific installation instructions for these products as the exact steps and requirements may vary depending on the product. It is also advisable to call in professionals or experienced craftsmen to ensure that the installation is carried out professionally and that the best results are achieved.
